The Configuration menu allows you to customize global software settings that apply to LABELVIEW and CODESOFT. These settings include document behavior, display options, default folders, grid settings, printing options, software preferences, and wizard functionality.
Access Configuration Settings: Open LABELVIEW or CODESOFT and navigate to Tools > Configuration.
Document Tab
The Document tab controls how documents, printers, databases, backups, and saved data are handled when opening and saving label files.
- Load the printer settings saved in the document: Restores the printer settings that were active when the document was last saved.
- Load the printer saved in the document: Restores the printer driver and port associated with the document if the printer exists on the workstation.
- Open merge database with the document: Automatically opens the database associated with the label when the document is opened.
- Do not display warning messages: Suppresses LABELVIEW/CODESOFT warning messages.
- Create a backup copy (.BAK): Automatically creates and updates a backup copy of the label file whenever it is saved.
- Open documents as read only by default: Opens all documents in read-only mode.NOTE: Read-only mode can be disabled from File > Open when opening a document.
- Auto save document: Automatically saves work at an interval you specify (1–99 minutes). Auto-saved files use the .TMP extension.
- Save the last values of the data sources: Automatically saves the most recent values entered into data sources.
Display Tab
The Display tab controls the software language, measurement units, and visual interface behavior.
- Display the object while moving: Shows the complete object while it is being repositioned. When disabled, only an outline is displayed.
- Activate animation effects: Enables interface animation effects.
- Language: Select the software display language.NOTE: LABELVIEW and CODESOFT support Unicode, allowing multilingual text and international character support regardless of operating system language.
- Unit of measurement: Displays measurements in either millimeters or inches.
Default Folders Tab
The Default Folders tab allows you to define default locations for documents, databases, images, and other files. Configuring default folders eliminates the need to manually browse to frequently used locations.

Grid Tab
The Grid tab controls object alignment and positioning on labels.
When a grid is enabled, objects automatically snap to the defined grid spacing while being moved or placed.
- None: Disables the grid and allows free-form object placement.
- User-defined: Allows you to specify a custom grid size.NOTE: When a grid is enabled, a Display option becomes available to show or hide the grid. Modifying or disabling the grid does not affect existing label content.
Printing Tab
The Printing tab provides configuration options that control print behavior and print dialog functionality.
Print Format Options
- Direct: Prints a single label immediately without displaying the print dialog.
- Simple: Displays only basic printing options. This is the default setting.
- Searches in database: Displays the Go to a record in a database window before printing.
- Database query result: Displays query results prior to printing.
- Infinite: Continuously sends print jobs until the user selects Cancel. This option is available when printing forms or when Portwatch data sources are used.
Additional Printing Options
- Update date during printing: Updates and saves the last printed date.
- Hide Cancel Print dialog box: Prevents the Cancel Print window from appearing. Printing can still be canceled from the Windows taskbar printer icon.
- Enable test printing: Allows test prints from the Printing dialog.
- Do not log test printing: Excludes test print jobs from print logs.
- Allow printing in evaluation mode: Permits printing while the software is running in evaluation mode.
- In case of canceling, finish the current page: When a print job is canceled, counters continue until they reach the configured final value. If disabled, counters retain their starting values.
- Keep the print dialog box open after print job: Leaves the print window open after printing is complete.NOTE: The print window must be manually closed after each print job when this option is enabled.
Others Tab
The Others tab contains miscellaneous software settings and customization options.
- Settings mode: Controls how software settings are shared and stored.
- Generic: Shares settings among multiple users. A shared path must be configured in the Users settings files location on the Default Folders tab.
- By User: Stores settings individually for each Windows user.
- By Station: Stores settings separately for each workstation.
- Label color: Changes the displayed background color of labels.
- Ruler text color: Changes ruler text color.
- Ruler background color: Changes ruler background color.
- Euro Conversion rate: Defines the exchange rate used by Euro currency conversion functions.
- Recently used files: Specifies how many recent files appear in the File menu.
- Shared files access timeout (ms): Defines the timeout value for shared file access operations.
- Use GS1 norm: Validates barcode settings against GS1 requirements, including check digits, human-readable text, and barcode sizing standards.
Wizards Tab
The Wizards tab controls which setup wizards are available in LABELVIEW and CODESOFT. Wizards provide guided, step-by-step assistance when creating labels and objects.
- Bar Code Wizard: Assists with creating GS1 (EAN/UCC) barcodes, including application identifiers, check digits, and human-readable text.
- Document Wizard: Guides users through creating a new label format, printer selection, stock selection, and layout configuration.
- Image Wizard: Assists with importing and configuring images, including size, color, brightness, and positioning.
- Text Wizard: Assists with creating and formatting label text, including font, style, alignment, and placement.NOTE: To temporarily enable or disable the Bar Code, Image, or Text Wizard, hold the SHIFT key while adding the object to the label.
Summary
