A hardware key will automatically activate the software once it's plugged in, and it must remain attached the entire time the software is in use. A red light on the purple USB key and a green light on the black USB key will indicate successful attachment. If you are being prompted to activate while the hardware key is plugged in, or if the hardware key is not being detected (lighting up), please reference the article here.
