OVERVIEW
A fixed barcode is a barcode whose data will not change. You can set the following properties for fixed barcodes:

  • Code properties, including symbology, size, and rotation
  • Options for creating a circular bar code
  • Options specific to the available two-dimensional (2D) symbologies
  • Human readable properties, including the location of text and whether to include a check character
  • Character properties, for setting the font for the human-readable code
  • General properties, including the object name, position, rotation, anchor point, and margins
  • Shape settings, including the shape type to use for the object's background, background color and border options
  • Rendering properties, including resolution of any selected pattern, applied to the object's background
  • Data source properties, where you can change the text (for fixed objects the data source is Fixed data)

PROCEDURE

1. On the Creation toolbar, click the Barcode generation tool.

2. Click anywhere inside the label. The Properties dialog box appears.

NOTE: The options available on this dialog box will vary depending on the symbology you select.

3. Review the properties in the Code tab.
  • Printer uses barcodes resident on the printer. Graphic uses barcodes generated by CODESOFT.

NOTE: Certain printers do not have all resident barcodes. The Graphic option provides additional bar codes; however, printing may be slow because the barcodes are sent to the printer as graphics.

  • Symbology displays the list of the barcodes available for selection.
  • Height and Narrow bar width values define the dimension of the barcode.

NOTE: Narrow bar width is entered as a number of printer points. Below this box, the corresponding dimension appears as units and characters per inch (cpi).

  • Ratio (if available) is the ratio of narrow bars to wide bars. The value must be between 2 and 3.5.
  • Space correction (if available) is a value that corrects for the distortion of bar codes caused by the ink distribution of some inkjet and dot matrix printers.
  • Check character (if available) defines the barcode check mode.
  • The Value box (if available) allows you to enter a value for the barcode.
4. Review the Character, General, and Shape settings tabs.

NOTE: For more information about these tabs, please see Training Guide: Fixed Objects - About Fixed Objects.

5. In the Data Source tab, notice that Fixed data is selected.

6. Click OK.

NOTE: Once you place an object on a label, you can click and drag to move it.
