Version: All Versions

This article explains the Print dialog box in LABELVIEW and CODESOFT, including quantity settings, printer configuration, database selection, and advanced print options.

The Print Dialog Box

The Print dialog box controls how labels are printed. Options vary depending on label variables, counters, and page setup.

Quantity Settings

Labels: Enter the number of labels to print when no counter variable is used.
Labels in the series: Prints sequential labels when a counter variable is present.
Copies of each label: Prints identical copies of each label.
Copies of each page: Defines number of full-page label copies.
Total: Automatically calculated total number of labels to be printed.

NOTE: Counter values remain the same across duplicate copies.

Printer Settings

Printer: Select the printer for output.
Settings: Opens printer-specific configuration options.
Preview: Displays a print preview with actual label values.

NOTE: Preview reflects page layout and labels per page.

Print in a file: Saves output to a file instead of printing.
Test print: Prints without incrementing variable values (if enabled in Tools > Configuration > Printing).

General

Access this section using the More button in the Print dialog box.

Start at Label: Choose the label number where printing begins.
Empty pages: Inserts blank pages after printing.
Adjust origin: Offsets print position on label media.

Database Tab

This tab appears only when a database is connected to the label.

Select Range: Prints sequential records using a dash (-). For example: 4-12.
Non-sequential: Uses semicolons (e.g., 1;15;19).
Mixed selection: Combines both formats.

Configuration

This window is accessed via the Configuration button in the Print dialog box.

Format: Controls print dialog behavior.
  • Direct: Prints a single label directly, without displaying the print dialog box.
  • Simple: Displays the print dialog box with only the basic printing options shown (this is the default print format).
  • Searches in database: Displays the Go to a record in a database dialog box at print time.
  • Database query result: Displays the Query result dialog box at print time.
  • Infinite: This option is available if the Form has been configured to display during printing or if any Portwatch data source has been created. Print jobs are sent one-by-one in an infinite loop until the user presses Cancel.
Update date during printing: Saves last printed date.
Hide Cancel Print dialog box: Removes cancel prompt.
Enable test printing: Allows test prints without affecting variables.
Do not log test printing: Excludes test prints from logs.
Allow printing in evaluation mode: Enables printing in demo mode.
Finish current page on cancel: Completes current counter until it reaches the final value when printing was launched.
Keep print dialog open: Keeps the dialog open after printing completes.

NOTE: When enabled, the print dialog must be manually closed.
