THE PRINT DIALOG BOX
The options available in the Print dialog box will vary depending on the variables (e.g., counters) and page setup defined for your label.
QUANTITY SETTINGS
- Labels: This option is available if you do not have a counter variable in your label. Enter the number of labels that you want to print.
- Labels in the series: This option appears if you have a counter variable set up for your label. Enter the number of labels in the counter series.
- For example, if you have a counter variable in your label, you can choose to print 12 labels in the series—each of these labels will get a different value for the counter. If you choose to print 2 copies of each label, then each of the 12 serial labels will have a duplicate.
- Copies of each label: This option appears if you have a counter variable set up for your label. Enter the number of identical copies of each label that you want to print.
- Copies of each page: Enter the number of copies of each page of labels that you want to print.
- Total: This value is automatically calculated based on the values provided for the preceding print quantities. This is the total number of labels to be printed.
- NOTE: If the label contains a counter, its value will remain the same for each copy.
PRINTER SETTINGS
- Printer: Allows you to select the printer to use to print the label design.
- Settings: This button displays the printer settings dialog box specific to the printer you are using for this document.
- Preview: This button displays a print preview of the labels for a specific printing session. This takes into account the specified print quantities and provides a preview of actual values (counters, database fields, forms) to be printed.
- NOTE: The preview box displays the page setup, and shows the number of labels per page that will be printed.
- Print in a file: Displays the Save as dialog box at print time so you can print to a file instead of printing to the predefined port.
- Test print: This check box is available if you have the Enable test printing check box selected in the Printing tab accessible through the Tools > Configuration > Printing tab command. Test printing allows you to print labels without incrementing variable values.
GENERAL
This window is accessible by clicking the More button in the lower right corner of the Print dialog box.
- Start at Label: This option appears if you have multiple labels per page. It allows you specify the number of the label at which you want printing to start.
- Empty pages: Allows you to specify the number of pages to be left empty after printing.
- Adjust origin: These options allow you to offset the position (vertically and horizontally) on the label media at which printing will begin.
DATABASE TAB
This tab is only visible when a database is connected to the label. You can choose to print only the selected record, print all records, or print a selection of records by using the syntax shown below.
- To print a range of records that are numbered sequentially: Insert a dash (-) between the first and last number in the range (e.g., to print records 4 to 12, type 4-12).
- To print records that are not numbered sequentially: Insert a semicolon (;) between each number (e.g., to print record 1, 15 and 19, type 1;15;19).
- To print a mixed range of records: Use both formats mentioned above (e.g., to print records 4 to 12, and records 1, 15 and 19, type 1;4-12;15;19).
CONFIGURATION
This windows is accessible by clicking the Configuration button from the Print dialog box. It is a shortcut to the Printing settings located in Tools > Configuration > Printing.
- Format: Allows you to specify the format in which to display the print dialog box.
- Direct: Prints a single label directly, without displaying the print dialog box.
- Simple: Displays the print dialog box with only the basic printing options shown (this is the default print format).
- Searches in database: Displays the Go to a record in a database dialog box at print time.
- Database query result: Displays the Query result dialog box at print time.
- Infinite: This option is available if the Form has been configured to display during printing or if any Portwatch data source has been created. Print jobs are sent one-by-one in an infinite loop until the user presses Cancel.
- Update date during printing: Updates and saves the date the label was last printed.
- Hide Cancel Print dialog box: Prevents the Cancel Print dialog box from appearing. To cancel printing, you can click the printer icon on the Windows task bar.
- Enable test printing: Allows you to perform test printing from the Printing dialog box.
- Do not log test printing: Keeps test printing jobs from being saved to the printing log file.
- Allow printing in evaluation mode: Allows printing when LABELVIEW/CODESOFT is running in evaluation (demo) mode.
- In case of canceling, finish the current page: When printing is canceled, the counters will continue processing until they reach the final value set when printing was launched. If this option is not checked, the counters will retain their initial values.
- Keep the print dialog box open after print job: After your print job is complete, the print window will remain open.
- NOTE: The print window will need to be closed out manually each time you are done printing when this configuration is selected.
PERFORMANCE
This windows is accessible by clicking the Performance button in the lower left corner of the Print dialog box. This will display a list of all objects on the label and alert you to any potential issues that may affect printing performance and speed.
