Shared counters allow multiple print jobs or users to reference the same counter value. This is useful when labels require sequential numbering that must continue across multiple print sessions or be reset when a specific database field changes.
This article explains how to create a shared Advanced Counter data source and configure it to reset automatically based on a selected data source.
Create a Shared Advanced Counter
If the Data Source pane is open:
- Select Advanced.
- Right-click and choose Add.
- Select Data Source from the menu.
- Point to Advanced.
- Select Add.
- Enter a descriptive name.
- Specify the starting value (for example, 1).
- Change the storage type from Local to Shared.
- Select the Counter tab.
- Enable the Counter checkbox.
- Set the Minimum and Maximum values.
- Enable Reset after data source value change.
