If you have been attempting to print to a Xerox printer using your TEKLYNX product and find that it is only printing in black and white, even though you have selected to use color, it is recommended to ensure that you have the proper driver installed. If you have the option to download from the official Xerox website directly, we suggest doing so. This will allow you to download an install file with the PCL 6/PCL 5e/c versions of the printer driver as well as the PostScript driver. In order to print properly using color with a Xerox printer and TEKLYNX software, it is recommended to choose the PCL version based upon your Windows OS.
Below is a listing of the driver descriptions and what they represent:
- PS - This stands for PostScript and was created for Vector Graphics. It is the original Page Description Language (PDL) that is a dynamically typed, concatenative programming language created by Adobe Systems. It can dramatically reduce the CPU work involved in printing documents and it transfers the workload of PostScript images from the computer to the printer. In essence, the PostScript driver is the legacy driver that has been tiered Levels one (1) through three (3). It is considered a "general print language" capable of printing on multiple hardware models. However, if this is not producing the proper printout results, we recommend using the PCL class of driver instead.
- PCL 5c - This stands for Printer Command Language (PCL 5). This introduced color support for HP PaintJet 300XL and HP Color LaserJet hardware models.
- PCL 5e (Enhanced) - This stands for Printer Command Language (PCL 5 Enhanced). In this update of the driver it included bi-directional communication support between the printer and the PC, as well as Windows Fonts.
- PCL 6 (Standard/Enhanced/Font Synthesis) - This stands for Printer Command Language (PCL 6). This is object-oriented and optimized for printing from platforms that utilize Graphical User Interfaces (GUI) such as Windows. This format was formerly known as PCL XL. PCL 6 is equivalent to the PCL 5e or PCL 5c drivers which were intended to provide backwards compatibility. Font Synthesis provides scalable fonts, storage of forms and fonts, and font management.
NOTE: Please keep in mind that if you are using the LABEL MATRIX product that you ensure LABEL MATRIX is closed prior to updating the printer driver. Additionally, any settings you have changed through the Windows "Devices and Printers" section within the Control Panel, it is recommended to reboot the LABEL MATRIX product in order to load those changes to the driver properly.
When installing your printer driver, it is recommended to select the PostScript option as well as the PCL 6 (Enhanced) Class of driver. It may take additional print testing depending on the settings within the printer driver that have been selected within your environment. This has been shown to resolve the issue.
