If your Xerox printer only prints in black and white when using a TEKLYNX product, even when color printing is selected, verify that the correct Xerox printer driver is installed. Downloading the latest drivers directly from Xerox is recommended.
The Xerox driver package typically includes PCL 6, PCL 5e, PCL 5c, and PostScript (PS) drivers. To achieve proper color printing from TEKLYNX software, select the driver that is most appropriate for your Windows operating system and printer model.
Xerox Driver Types
The following driver types are commonly available from Xerox and may affect color printing behavior.
- PS (PostScript) – PostScript was developed by Adobe for vector graphics and page description processing. It reduces CPU workload by shifting image processing to the printer. PostScript is considered a universal print language that works across many hardware models. If color output is not correct when using PostScript, try a PCL driver instead.
- PCL 5c – Printer Command Language 5c introduced color printing support for printers such as the HP PaintJet 300XL and HP Color LaserJet.
- PCL 5e (Enhanced) – Printer Command Language 5 Enhanced added bidirectional communication between the printer and PC, along with Windows font support.
- PCL 6 (Standard / Enhanced / Font Synthesis) – Printer Command Language 6 is optimized for graphical Windows environments and is object-oriented. Formerly known as PCL XL, it provides backward compatibility with PCL 5e and PCL 5c. Font Synthesis adds scalable fonts, form storage, font storage, and font management capabilities.
NOTE: If you are using LABEL MATRIX, close the application before updating the printer driver. After updating the driver or making changes through Windows Devices and Printers, restart LABEL MATRIX so the new driver settings are properly loaded.
Recommended Driver Selection
When installing Xerox printer drivers, it is recommended to install both:
- PostScript (PS)
- PCL 6 (Enhanced)
Additional print testing may be required depending on the printer settings configured in your environment. Using the PostScript and PCL 6 (Enhanced) drivers has been shown to resolve color printing issues in many cases.
