Overview

Follow these steps to connect a .CSV (comma-separated values) file as an ASCII database in LABELVIEW or CODESOFT. After the connection is created, the database fields will appear in the Data Sources pane and can be placed onto your label.

Procedure

1. Open the Data Sources panel.

If it is not already visible, navigate to View and enable the Data Sources panel.

2. Open the ASCII database connection wizard.

Navigate to Data Source > Database > Open ASCII Table.

3. Browse for your CSV file.

In the ASCII Database window, click the Browse button next to the Data File field and locate your .CSV file.

4. Display all file types.

In the lower-right corner of the file browser, change the file type filter to All Files.

5. Select the CSV file.

Choose your .CSV file and click Open.

6. Edit the database definition.

From the ASCII Database window, click Edit.

7. Define the database fields.

Enter the number of fields in the database, then assign a name to each field under the Name column.

Click OK, then click OK again to save the Describer File.

8. Save the Describer File.

Enter a name for the Describer File, click Save, then click OK.

9. Verify the database connection.

After the connection is complete, the database fields will appear in the Data Sources pane. You can now drag or place these fields onto your label to display the associated data.
