This article explains how to download a Windows system font to a printer using the Font Downloader utility in LABELVIEW and CODESOFT.

Downloading fonts to the printer allows labels to use printer-resident fonts instead of graphic fonts, which can improve print performance and reduce the amount of data sent to the printer.

Prerequisite: A supported TEKLYNX printer driver must already be installed before using Font Downloader.

Download a Font to the Printer

1. Open an existing label document or create a new document.
2. Navigate to Tools > Font Downloader.

3. In Font Downloader, select Printer > Select.

4. Select the target printer and click OK.

5. Click the Wizard button to launch the Font Download Wizard.

6. Select the font type you want to create and click >>.

7. Select the desired Windows system font and click >>.

8. Specify the font height, including the unit of measurement and font size, then click >>.

9. Specify the desired font width and click >>.

10. Enter a font name for the downloaded font and click >>.

 

IMPORTANT: Modify the font name slightly from the original Windows font name (for example, use "Broadway Printer" instead of "Broadway"). This prevents conflicts between printer-resident fonts and graphic fonts with the same name.

11. Select the appropriate character set and click >>.

12. Select the desired memory module on the printer and click End.

13. When prompted to download the font to the printer, click Yes.

14. After the download completes successfully, click Exit to close Font Downloader.

Note: Downloaded fonts are stored in the selected printer memory location. If printer memory is cleared, firmware is updated, or hardware is replaced, the font may need to be downloaded again.
