There are two locations that it is possible for the label file to become a "read only" file, from within the software.
In LABEL ARCHIVE, when you are checking out a label, there is a check box on the left hand side for read only. Make sure that this option is unchecked.

In CODESOFT, if you go to Tools > Configuration and the Document tab, there is a check box for "Open documents as 'Read only' mode by default". This should be unchecked.
