1. Bring up the properties window of the Data Source field looking to be formatted.

2. This can be done in a few ways. One is by Selecting the field, right clicking and selecting Properties. Another is by choosing the name of the field from the Data Source window, if it has been made visible it is on the right hand side, right clicking and selecting Properties. It can also be accessed by clicking on Data Source, finding what type of Data Source it is, selecting the Name of the field and then selecting Properties

3. Once in the Properties window, look for the Output tab.

4. In order for the variable to appear differently on the label the Output Mask needs to be updated.

5. In this example we want the information entered to have a dash every third character. The Output Mask entered is ***-***-***. Click OK.
6. No matter what 9 digits of information are entered in the When Printed field (for this example) the information will display with the dashes after every three characters.
