How do I convert my labels with the LABELVIEW or CODESOFT Batch Converter?
Views:
Product: LABELVIEW, CODESOFT Version: All Versions
Use the TEKLYNX LABELVIEW Batch Converter to convert older label files to the newest TEKLYNX software version.
Prepare Labels for Conversion
1. Make sure you know the location of your label files.
2. Verify that all dependent files are available, including serial files, database files, image files, and text files.
3. Ensure the files are version 6 or higher. Labels created in version 5 or older cannot be converted directly.
NOTE: If your labels are version 5 or older, download LABELVIEW 8.6 and open/save all labels in that version before using the Batch Converter in the newest release.
4. If you use obsolete database formats such as .dbf files, convert them to an Excel workbook or Access database before beginning the conversion process.
Batch Convert Labels
1. If LABELVIEW or CODESOFT is already running, click Tools → LABELVIEW Batch Converter. The converter can also be launched directly from the Windows Start menu.
NOTE: The LABELVIEW Batch Converter cannot convert labels originally created in version 5 or older. Conversion results are often improved when both the old and new software versions are installed. If the older version is unavailable, install LABELVIEW 8.6 before converting.
2. Select the Source tab. Define the location containing the label files you want to convert, then click Files to Convert.
3. Select the labels you want to convert. Enter any required passwords using the key icon, then click Destination.
4. Define the location where converted labels will be saved. It is recommended to use a new folder location to preserve backup copies of the original labels. Click Options.
5. In the Specify Conversion Options window, click Location of Linked Files.
6. Define the locations of all dependent files such as databases, serial files, text files, and pick list files. If needed, reference the old software under Options → Directories. When finished, click Back.
7. Click New Location of Linked Files.
8. Define where the dependent files will be copied after conversion. Click Reset all to match the default folders configured in the new LABELVIEW installation. If necessary, to update folder paths, open software and then go to Tools → Configuration → Default Folders, then click Reset all again. Once this is done, click Back.
9. Review the Miscellaneous Options and Messages settings, then click Processing to begin the conversion.
10. Review the Conversion Process log for any warnings or errors. Errors are identified with a red exclamation icon.
The conversion process duration depends on the number and complexity of labels being converted. When complete, click Preview and Approve Converted Labels to compare the original and converted labels side-by-side. The Comparison window will appear. If the label needs modification, an Edit button can be clicked to quickly launch the design software allowing changes to be made. After closing the design software, the preview will refresh. If the conversion appears successful, click Approve.
NOTE: All labels must be approved. After the converter is closed, the bulk approval option is no longer available.
11. After reviewing and approving the labels, click Close to exit the Comparison window.
12. The conversion process is now complete. Converted labels are located in the folder defined on the Destination tab.
