The ITF-14, also referred to as "Shipping Container Code", is an interleaved 2 of 5 symbology that requires the following 14 numeric digits:
- Digit 1 - Packing indicator
- Digits 2-3 - UPC numbering system or EAN prefix
- Digits 4-8 - Manufacturer identification number
- Digits 9-13 - Item identification number
- Digit 14 - Checksum digit (a Mod10 checksum automatically generated by the software)
Bearer Bars
The ITF-14 bar code includes several options for adding bearer bars to help prevent short scans.
- None - Print only the bar code, with no bearer bars or box
- Bearer Bars - Prints the bar code with horizontal bearer bars above and below the bar code
- Bearer Box - Prints the bar code with horizontal and vertical bearer bars surrounding the bar code
