Overview
This procedure explains how to configure a Generic / Text Only printer on a client computer and then connect that printer to CODESOFT from a server using a network printer path.
Client Machine Setup
The client machine must have the Generic / Text Only printer driver installed before it can be used by CODESOFT.
1. Open Start → Control Panel → Devices and Printers → Add Printer. Choose to add the printer manually. (This example uses Windows 11.)
2. Select Add a Local Printer and choose the appropriate port (LPT, USB, or IP).
3. Select Generic as the manufacturer and Generic / Text Only as the printer.
4. Assign a name to the printer. Record this printer name because it will be used later as part of the UNC network path.
5. Select Share this printer and keep the default share name. Do not set the printer as the default printer.
Server Configuration in CODESOFT
NOTE: CODESOFT must be run as Administrator to complete this configuration.
1. Launch CODESOFT, then select File → Select Printer → Add.
2. Select the printer model that matches your physical printer hardware.
3. Click Network Printers.
4. Enter the UNC path using the client computer name and the shared printer name created earlier, then click OK.
