This is happening because an incorrect number of characters is provided by the variable information. UPC-A barcodes require 11 numbers to be provided, exactly.
1. When entering fixed information, the software is able to notify you that you have entered an incorrect amount of data.
2. When variable data is provided, the software is unable to provide a notification. Ensure that the variable data that is being provided is exactly 11 digits of numeric data and the barcode should print as expected.
