Use this procedure to connect a Microsoft Excel workbook or Microsoft Access database to LABELVIEW or CODESOFT and add database fields to your label design. Database connections allow label objects to display data directly from records stored in Excel or Access.

Applies To: Excel (.xlsx, .xls) and Access (.mdb, .accdb) database connections.

Create a Database Connection

1. Navigate to Data Sources → Database → Wizard to open the New Database Wizard.

2. Click New.

NOTE: If the database connection has already been created, proceed directly to Select a Table and Fields.

3. Select either Access or Excel as the database type, enter a connection name, and click Next.

4. Click the Browse button and select the Excel workbook or Access database file you want to connect to.

5. Click Test Connection. If the connection test succeeds, click OK, then click Finish.

Select a Table and Fields

6. Select the database connection from the Select connection to an existing data source list. Use the second drop-down menu to select the table or worksheet containing your data.

7. Select the database fields you want available for use on the label, then click Next.

8. Optionally choose whether each selected field should be created as a Text, Barcode, or Image object. Click Finish to complete the wizard.

NOTE: This step is optional. You can create or place database objects manually after the wizard is complete.

Add Database Fields to a Label

9. To manually place a database field on the label, right-click the field in the Data Sources panel and select Place.

10. Click anywhere on the label and choose whether the database field should be displayed as Text, Barcode, or Image.
