1. When the label is Checked Out, make sure that the "Read only" check box is unchecked. You will be unable to edit the label or Check it back in if the label is checked out as Read only.

2. Make sure that documents aren't set to open in Read only mode by default. Go to Tools > Configuration and uncheck "Open documents as "Read only" mode by default."
